{"id":1129,"date":"2009-08-08T11:25:52","date_gmt":"2009-08-08T18:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.josemarquez.com\/xsml\/?p=1129"},"modified":"2009-08-08T11:25:52","modified_gmt":"2009-08-08T18:25:52","slug":"the-nyt-sells-aged-cheese-not-fresh-milk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.josemarquez.com\/etc\/2009\/08\/08\/the-nyt-sells-aged-cheese-not-fresh-milk\/","title":{"rendered":"The NYT sells aged cheese, not fresh milk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a now famous exchange, the Daily Show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailyshow.com\/watch\/wed-june-10-2009\/end-times\">stumped a New York Times editor<\/a> by pointing out that all the news fit to print is old news:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nDaily Show: Why is aged news better than real news?<br \/>\nNew York Times: I&#8217;ve never heard that term before\u2026[and] not necessarily.<\/p>\n<p>DS: Tell me one thing in there that happened today.<br \/>\nNYT: Nothing here happened today but there are several things that didn&#8217;t happen yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>DS: So it&#8217;s even older.<br \/>\nNYT: It depends on your perspective.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I hope I&#8217;m never interviewed by the Daily Show because I would surely implode. that said, the NYT editor was defending the wrong position. <\/p>\n<p>He could have answered: &#8220;Why is aged milk better than fresh milk? Because it&#8217;s cheese. We live in a marketplace and a culture where both cheese and milk are desired. The NYT is in the business of selling aged cheese not fresh milk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cheese is complex, dense and nutritious. Milk is great for cereal and coffee.
