In this complicated world we live in where consumer choices are felt to be political choices and vice versa, John Mackay’s op-ed on health care in the Wall Street Journal may have done more to “activate” credit card-carrying liberals than President Obama’s own PAC. Here’s Mackay on his constituents<\/a> back in 2005:<\/p>\n

“Let’s go down right now and count the Volvos in the parking lot,” he says, his face turning almost scarlet. “Many of our customers are so environmentally conscious they don’t even own cars.”<\/p>\n

But most are well-educated. “The common link is education, not income,” Mackey says. “That correlates with income, but not perfectly.” <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
