The drive to realize &#8220;Virtual Reality&#8221; is not to escape into a world that doesn&#8217;t exist but to hone in on the one that does; it&#8217;s a selective vision.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice's_Adventures_in_Wonderland\">Alice in Wonderland<\/a> illustrates, virtual reality is a dive <em>into<\/em> the borders of reality, into the dense, unseen background that we push out of sight, out of of mind in order to focus on and execute our daily routines.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why &#8220;augmented reality&#8221;, both <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Augmented_reality\">the term<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwriteweb.com\/archives\/yelp_brings_first_us_augmented_reality_to_iphone_s.php\">the experiences it describes<\/a>, has caught on where &#8220;virtual reality&#8221; never did. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading a mostly lame set of predictions for the future, I came across this: &#8220;Virtual reality &#8211; Glasses which show you a world that isn&#8217;t there.&#8221; That&#8217;s exactly wrong.
