{"id":4734,"date":"2011-02-19T12:41:28","date_gmt":"2011-02-19T19:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/josemarquez.com\/xsml\/?p=4734"},"modified":"2011-02-19T12:41:28","modified_gmt":"2011-02-19T19:41:28","slug":"the-only-true-mirror-is-the-funhouse-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.josemarquez.com\/etc\/2011\/02\/19\/the-only-true-mirror-is-the-funhouse-one\/","title":{"rendered":"The only true mirror is the funhouse one."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/josemarquez.com\/etc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/optical1.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"optical\" width=\"414\" height=\"202\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4737\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the last 24 hours I&#8217;ve had the pleasure to experience two novel and fun works of art: <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/19723116\">The Exterior World<\/a>, a sarcastic animation by David OReilly and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lightspeedmagazine.com\/fiction\/standard-loneliness-package\/\">Standard Loneliness Package<\/a>, a kindhearted short story by Charles Yu.<\/p>\n<p>Neither would be considered a realistic depiction and yet I found both honest and, in different ways, touching.<\/p>\n<p>OReilly&#8217;s cartoon is full of impish gags and violent slapstick. It lampoons not so much its characters but the viewer&#8217;s cognitive and emotional limits. (A key scene involves a cat jumping through the gaps in our suspension of disbelief.)
