(Not that there&#8217;s anything wrong with that.)<\/p>\n<p>The geniuses on Wall Street needed to be bailed out by the working stiffs on Main Street. The brilliant minds of Silicon Valley can&#8217;t figure out how to house elementary school teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a responsible, pro-technology manifesto: <strong>Make society less brittle, invest resources in redundancy rather than trick shots, refuse to pay for silver bullets. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2011\/11\/28\/no-death-no-taxes\">Instead of trying to cheat death<\/a>, make dying dignified and gentle and graceful.<\/p>\n<p>We should ridicule men who would rather become machines than confront their fundamental, ineffable weakness. That we err, that we die, is our fortune.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunes (<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bl.uk\/digitisedmanuscripts\/2012\/02\/the-wheel-of-fortune.html\">fortuna<\/a>) are made of calamity. (Quite literally in the case of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2010\/04\/wall-street-excerpt-201004\">the big short<\/a>, aka, &#8220;betting on the blind side&#8221;.) <\/p>\n<p>Learning to lose is our one chance at immortality.<\/p>\n<p>I was reminded of this when Facebook reminded me of a post I&#8217;d made four years earlier:<\/p>\n<p><center><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.josemarquez.com\/etc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/facebook-memory-movies-prediction.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"575\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8158\" \/><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The basic point being that no matter how much we may want to predict the future, software won&#8217;t and can&#8217;t. &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/#q=David+X+Li+copula+function\">David X Li copula function<\/a>&#8221; is a simple warning \/ proof.
