Nicholas Carr’s essay about the deleterious effects of the web is going to be controversial and that controversy could be very productive.
Some of the mental actvity he describes rings true to me. Whether it amounts to a widescale regression would require a survey of the wide variety of people who use the web.
Those that are obsessive, likely become more knowledgeable. Those that are distracted.
